County To Make Improvements at South Ave. & Center St.by Garwood Police Department on 09/01/16
In March of 2014, Union County advised Garwood that they intended to make improvements to the intersection of South Avenue and Center Street.
The project will include new arced traffic poles painted black to match our decorative street lights located in our business districts. The traffic lights will have non reflective backing plates so that the lights can be seen better from all directions and at all times of the day. The stop lines in the left turn lanes NB & EB will set back further to allow better navigation by larger trucks. Each light will have battery back-up to allow for power outages and all the wiring will be upgraded.
Planning and meetings continued through 2014, 2015 and into 2016. On Monday August 22nd this work finally began. The project is expected to take approximately 30-45 days. At least one officer will be on site daily while work takes place, for the duration of the project. The Garwood Police will also assist our School Guards to ensure the safety of our kids while walking to and from school. We apologize for the short notice and appreciate your patience and added caution while this work takes place.
